Proof66 Notes

Camus Borderies cognac are limited release of brandy made from a single vineyard in the Borderies region of Cognac, France made from 100% Ugni Blanc grapes. The VSOP ("very special old pale") released 1,250 cases in 2013.

Camus VSOP Borderies was named Best Cognac in the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Here at Proof66, we featured the Camus Borderies VSOP as one of the 5 standouts at the Chicago tour stop of the 2014 Double Gold Medal winners saying it was "dry, silky, and warming."

Maison Camus was originated in concept in 1863 by Jean-Baptiste Camus when he created the La Grande Marque, which was a group of brandy producers. In 1866, this evolved to the founding of Maison Camus itself, achieving complete control and ownership. It has had today had 5 successive generations of Camus family ownership.

It's a lot more difficult to find reviews and ratings on brandies/cognacs (outside of this website) compared to whisk(e)ys. This cognac is another purchase I made solely because of the rating it has on proof66. Everything about it is perfectly balanced and just right. The nose is fruity (apples, citrus, and plums), has a hint of "muskiness" (in a good, Blanton's kind of way), and has zero alcohol sharpness so you can really bury your nose in the glencairn and take a deep whiff. The palate has all that fruitiness but also has just a hint of peppery spice to balance that fruit perfectly. The finish slowly diminishes and trails off kind of like the classic ballads from the 80's hair bands did. I think the Camus Borderies VSOP is my favorite brandy/cognac (so far). I might have to buy another bottle because I believe it is a limited edition.
