Proof66 Notes

Remy Martin was founded in 1724 by the man Remy Martin. Cognac was first produced over a century later in 1830. The centaur on every bottle is an homage to the zodiac sign (Sagittarius) of the founder as well as "an alliance of man and nature." In modern times, their cognacs are made exclusively from grapes grown in the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne regions.

Wow! What an incredible disappointment! Picked this up for half price ($21) for a 750ml bottle thinking I was getting a deal and boy, what a let-down. As a bourbon drinker, I highly enjoy pronounced oak flavors but this was oak overload. Almost like I was licking my kitchen cabinets. I gave this three chances poured neat in a snifter and it was just "off". It was ok mixed with ginger ale but nothing impressive. Tried making an old fashioned and Manhattan and didn't care for it there either. The aromas and flavors seem un-unbalanced - to a level I've never experienced before. I would have been really pissed if I had paid full price for this "fine champagne cognac." Most people seem to love this stuff...it just wasn't for me. I'll stick to Bourbon & Scotch.

My wife and I were at a restaurant and I wanted to try some Macallan 18 year, but I just couldn't get myself to drop $30 on a 2 ounce pour, so I tried the Remy Martin instead. I think NeatPour's description of the flavor is pretty good. I get oak, fruity sweetness, and a pretty noticeable alcohol burn throughout the whole experience. NeatPour says it thinned out at the end for him, but to me it seemed thin the whole time. As I was drinking I was wondering if I could tell a difference between the Remy and Hennessy; it would be interesting to do a side by side to compare, but I don't think I really like either of them enough to buy the bottles to do it. My wife did say that "it smells better than the crap you usually drink", and that would be considered a glowing review from her, but I think this stuff is just so-so (especially if it's $36 per bottle).

3.75 rounded to 4, this is my first cognac! I think it's good and I'm excited to try more. It starts with an oddly familiar whiskey oaky flavor, gets sweet, then thins out like rum... Bottom line, I'm glad I tried it and I think it's mellow enough for some of my less enthusiastic about whiskey friends to get into

better value in the VSOP range as Remy Martin did not increase their prices when the competitors have increased without increasing quality of their liquids. smoother than other VSOP products from major cognac houses. great all time cognac for easy drinking.

There are a lot of cognacs out there priced from $20 to $200 and up! This is the first bottle you should buy as you look at adding a cognac to your home bar stock. Its a solid standard any guest would enjoy.
