Works very well in a Negroni - the spice comes through nicely without interfering with the gin and Campari. Also really enjoy this paired with 100 proof SOCO for a great cheap, Manhattan recipe. Also very good in a Rob Roy with JWR. I feel it doesn't make nearly as good of a traditional Manhattan (with bourbon and rye) but still gets the job done. Very reasonably priced in my area ($6 - $7 for 750ml) and can be found just about anywhere.

Cranecreek (2016-09-18):
Would this be an okay choice for my "manhattan project" (ha-ha-not that BIG of an experiement) it would be easier to find. Does it need to be kept cold? I will look for the Fee bitters but would Angostura be ok? I'ts all I can find so far.

KaiserSoze (2016-09-19):
M&R is perfectly acceptable for a Manhattan. If you order a Manhattan out, it will mostly likely be made with M&R unless you are at a high-end bar or restaurant. I think it’s also fair to say that many home mixologists use it as well. It’s easily accessible and relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the 3 I suggested to you earlier. I personally find it has a thinner mouthfeel and has just a slightly bitter note when mixed with bourbon or rye, but will still make a fine Manhattan. If you do use M&R, I would suggest using a 3:1 ratio of whiskey to vermouth. It most definitely should be kept in the fridge, especially after it’s opened and only has a shelf life of about 1-2 months. As far as the bitters, Angostura is fine if it’s all you can find. It doesn’t have the same amount of flavor as the Fees Whiskey Barrel Aged, but will still be sufficient. Hope this helps! Cheers!
