Proof66 Notes

El Buho (or "the owl") mezcal calls themselves "the dark side of tequila." It is made in Oaxaca at an unnamed distillery from espadin agave--a forerunner and cousin to Blue Weber agave used for tequila. The mezcal is made in traditional fashion using earthen ovens to bake the agave and then crushing them not through steel mills but rather beneath stone wheels drawn by donkeys. El Buho appears to be owned by Henry Steele Imports of New York.
