Proof66 Notes

This specialty gin is aged for a day in Japanese Sencha and Chinese Green teas (along with 12 more traditional botanicals) for a unique scent and texture; because it departs from the traditional London Dry we have opted to list it as an "other."

Our own tasting at the Tasting Panel 2010 Chicago Tour we said it's a classic, dry taste but with some overtones of fruit (the green tea?) that comes together rather nicely.

Beefeater Gin 24 is in the shadow of original Beefeaters Gin. The original Beefeater Gin is better gin in gin and tonic and in the martini. Beefeater 24 gin is not bad ,but not great, just decent. Beefeater 24 Gin is overpriced in its lower quality in comparison to original Beefeater Gin.It reminds me of Tanqueray Original Gin. Blindfolded I would I would have identified it as Tanqueray. If you love Tanqueray , you will like Beefeater 24. If you like Beefeater Original Gin , you will not like Beefeaters 24. I will not buy it again.I am fan of original Beefeater Gin.

I had been wanting to try this one, and finally pulled the trigger when I saw it on sale at my ABC for the same as my regular Beefeater ($20). Great nose on this one with a heavy juniper punch followed by additional notes from the green teas and grapefruit peel. Made a great g&t, but really shines in a dry martini (5 parts 24 to 1 part Dolin Dry). Another reviewer noted a bitter note on the finish attributed to the tea. I also pick up on that, but wonder if it's not more from the grapefruit? 24 would be a great gin if you are a fan of traditional, but want something just a tick out of the box. At the $20 sale price I could see myself buying this one again, but at it's normal $27, I'll chip in a few extra dollars and buy Plymouth or Hendrick's. However, this is a SOLID 4 stars.

4.5 stars sweet and mild juniperish upfront, then citrus and the green tea. pretty good but it leaves a bit bitter taste from the green tea in the finish when you use it in a dry martini or drink it neat.

Smooth and very clean tasting gin... Flavors and juniper were pretty delicate and light for me which is fine. For uber smooth go with Plymouth and for more gin flavor (juniper) go with Bombay.... It didn't really shine through in my cocktail the way Bombay does

I really like this. Beefeater was my favorite, but I think its heavy juniper flavor only works in the right setting. This, however, seems to work in just about every gin cocktail in which I've tried it. It will be a regular stock item at my home from now on.

My only experience with gin up to this point was Beefeater, Seagram's, New Amsterdam, Tanqueray and Tanqueray Rangpur. I don't know if it's the additional 24 hour steeping process or what, but this is my new favorite gin. Luckily, it's only $1 more than regular Beefeater where I work.

In general, London Dry is my least favorite style of gin. 24, however, is the exception to the rule. The green tea and other botanicals are stately and harmonious here. It's like the gin equivalent of Elgar or Purcell; I want to head to my gentleman's club and spend an evening playing snooker and whist.

Tastes closer to a classic gin than a modern, but there are some underlying herbal/botanical tones to it. I like it, but it doesn't beat Hendricks or North Shore No 6.

An interesting and drier, more herbal and citrus departure on a classic. While this version costs about 50% more than its regular version it is still at or below the price of many of the newer artisanal gins and the only artisanal gin in the world made by someone of Desmond Paynes vast experience and expertise - in our mind that counts for a bit.
