The Bitter Truth was founded in 2006 by former bartenders Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck with the intention of large-scale distribution of cocktail bitters, which they felt was enjoying a resurgence. Berg goes further to say:
Both of them had already gained a considerable amount of experience in producing handmade cocktail bitters for the bars they were working at. In addition, Stephan owned a large collection of current and historical bitters, some of which hadn’t been produced for decades. Thus, he knew how the most well-known bitters of the world tasted and was considered a specialist in this area.
Since that time, they have produced a large line of bitters as well as some specialty spirits.
The Bitter Truth Sloe Gin is a traditionalist take on the liqueur made from the "best ripe sloe berries" and macerated with the Blue Gin from Hans Reisetbauer, itself considered to be a premium gin for connoisseurs. They use only natural berries providing a scarlet red liqueur with a plum-fruit aroma.
