Proof66 Notes

Bombay Sapphire gin is the well-known, blue-colored London Dry gin. First launched in 1987, it is the product of Madison Avenue design firms and herbal blends from England based upon the London Dry flavor profile. The gin itself is not blue but rather named "sapphire" for its striking blue bottle.

Love this in a G&T, probably my favorite gin for this cocktail. However, I prefer Beefeater or Tanqueray for a dry martini. A little over priced but unique enough to keep my interest up and keep it in my rotation.

Bombay Sapphire is now made By Bacardi in its own Distillery in England. It is a different Bombay Sapphire now than the one made by Greenall Distillery. It is too bitter in martini or straight upon rocks . The gin and tonic is over the top with medicinal bitterness. The nose is juniper, fresh beet, liquorice and citrus. The entry is prickly with juniper, eucalyptus and menthol palate ending with bitter lemon , juniper, and black pepper finish. This gin has too much bitter citrus and juniper There is no finesse. The wonderful floral notes and balance of juniper , liquorice and citrus from Greenall distillery are gone. It used to be my favorite gin. I am glad I only got the 200 ml bottle. I will not buy it again. Greenall distillery made outstanding quality Bombay Sapphire gin, but Barcardi with their own gin distillery have degraded it into substantial bottom shelf product. The only problem is that the price is premium priced for bottom shelf quality.

BDanner (2016-09-29):
I must only have had the Bacardi version, because I've never understood the love this one gets. Even though it's not my favorite, I even prefer the standard expression of Bombay over this one.

Tango (2016-10-25):
The regular Bombay is much better than Sapphire

A great gin for highballs or craft cocktails. A little bit more complex than the standard Tanqueray in terms of flavor - not as juniper forward with a few more botanicals. If you don't like something as piney as Tanqueray, want something just as good and versatile, and are willing to pay a few extra bucks, then this gin is for you.

40%ABV = 80 Proof. Nice dry juniper nose. The gin starts intense fresh, nice juniper aroma with a quite sharp alcohol there. The flavour is full and round, dry juniper there with a rough alcohol. The nice and full aroma remains long on the tongue, herbal bitter with a very dry body. Very nice and flavourful. 3.8

4.1 stars, a gin for every occasion...balanced mix of juniper & 9 other botanicals, smooth, earthy-peppery finish, a little bit too "perfumey", works great in martinis, g&ts, fruity long drinks..you name it.

3.5 stars. I thought it tasted great until I tried it side by side with Tanqueray. Bombay Sapphire is not heavy on the juniper (it's not supposed to be as it is a "modern" gin) but next to Tanqueray, it tastes like water. Bottle is easy on the eye, but I'm paying for what is inside. I bought into the hype and was a bit disappointed. It is a fine gin, just not a great gin.

It's a nice flavor and useful as a mixer, but Beefeater slays it and is cheaper too. Pretty, tasty, affordable, but kind of unnecessary considering the other popular options.

Refreshing taste, a little overpowering. Not sure why everyone loves this so much.

I think that this is the better common, gather, reunion gin in the market, it has sweet body, very nice after taste, good with lemon/citric sodas, and if you drink it cold, it doesn't affect the taste, great gin great taste at a affordable price

Not as much juniper on my palate as traditional gins. Very smooth...probably my go to alternative gin.

Not my first choice of gin, but only because there are others that are even better. In a cocktail or just poured over ice, this is outstanding.

Makes the best Martini I've made...that says something. On the cheap Booth's is a good slave's martini. I love bombay sapphire for it's root/bark taste. The coriander is a nice touch, too. The selection of botanicals sets it above and beyond other mid-priced gins. Although, I do prefer Tanqueray in the frutier drinks. Popularity? I am not ashamed to be a Sapphire fan. Also, it smells great.

This would be a 5 star gin in my book if I didn't get sick of Juniper very quickly. Thankfully this is not a terribly juniper heavy gin, as you might expect from all the other botanicals added. It's probably a little bit more expensive than it's worth, suffering from popularity but I have yet to find a gin that is cheaper and can take its place in my bar - try it if traditional london dry style gins are a bit bland for you or you find the juniper profiles too strong in other offerings.

A solid gin with a very nice bottle. This one suffers from popularity though. It may be smooth and tasty, but at the end of the day, its just another juniper gin. Good if you are mixing or sipping casually, but its not the sort of spirit you go for when you are looking for a quality mold breaker.

There are a ton of better gins on the market. For this price point, Beefeater is hands down better than Sapphire. For a little more money, you can go with Bluecoat, Beefeater 24, Death's Door, Plymouth, or North Shore No. 11. All are much, much better than Sapphire.

Definitely a big fan of the j-berry flavoring on this one. Price is certainly a big plus as well.
