Proof66 Notes

Magellan gin is named for Ferdinand de Magellan who was the first (sort of) man to circumnavigate the globe. His ship (sans their captain) returned to Spain with cloves, which inspired the creation of gin. It is made with cloves, (uniquely) iris, juniper, cinnamon, garden of paradise, cardamon, cassia, orange peel, coriander, licorice, and nutmeg.

A very nice, decent gin with a mild and not overwhelming Juniper presence balanced by a well chosen and mixed set of botanicals. A good solid gin with a unique color signature so you can show off your choice.

In a 4 tasting with Tanqueray, North Shore#6 and Rouge Pinot Noir it was middle of the road. Doesn't have a strong scent and definitely not juniper. Left a bad aftertaste when done neat. Tonic took out the aftertaswte in an OK Gin&Tonic. Didn't work at all in a Martini but was drinkable in a Maiden's Prayer.

i thought Magellan made a very smooth, easy to drink gin and tonic. I am very fond of gin and tonic, so any new gin has to be up to snuff the please me. Magellan made the grade - very smooth and easy to drink. good taste, a little burn, but very smooth - Magellan made it in all categories. However, if you enjoy martinis, try a different gin. This one just doesn't cut it in a martini.

If first impressions are everything, then Magellan is a winner! Beautiful bottle, color and fragrance. This is the first Gin and Tonic I have every finished, and I would order again! Mixed in a Maiden's Prayer was a treat as well. I pictured myself poolside, sipping these all afternoon. Magellan failed to impress me as a classic martini, I could shake the Vick's Vapor Rub thought as I forced myself to finish my first sip. Overall, I like the presentation, and as a Gin and Tonic.

Alright, so this is a good gin but I'm not big on the flowery botanical gins and this one is definitely that. If you like that type of gin, I'm guessing you'll love Magellan.
