Proof66 Notes

Art in the Age Snap Liqueur is a ginger infused liqueur. Or, more specifically, a gingersnap cookie flavored liqueur made with ginger and blackstrap molasses--the lebkuchen. The molasses distinguishes the Snap from other ginger liqueurs with what thy regard as an earthy and more robust flavor.

Art in the Age is short for "Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction." They seek creative artists woven together in a web of personal contacts. In what we at Proof66 see as an echo of Thomas Carlyle's rant coming to us from the industrial revolution of the 18th century, Art in the Age proclaims: Rather than exist at a distance in the white cube of the gallery space, we weave our offerings into the collective surface of myriad personal contexts. In this troubling epoch of industrial commodification, standardization of reproduction, and fomentation of a society of shallow spectacle, Art In The Age issues a challenge and rally cry. We fight fire with fire, subsuming the onslaught of watered down facsimiles and inaccessible displays with thought-provoking products of real cultural capital.

Art in the Age spirits were acquired by William Grant & Sons in June of 2010. Production moved from California to Tamworth Distilling of New Hampshire.

Fresh out of the bottle, SNAP's aroma is warm and sweet like gingerbread, with a soft honey color. Sipped neap, SNAP's flavor is spicy and sweet, with a slightly syrupy texture and a strong bite. You can taste the molasses in it, along with the cinnamon and, further back, the ginger. I was expecting the ginger to be a little more forward in the flavor profile, and while it's definitely there, it's just one part of the mix. This is a unique spirit -- not the kind of thing you'd drink everyday. But it's definitely recommended as part of the mixologist's arsenal.
