Proof66 Notes

Benedictine liqueur is attributed to Dom Bernardo Vincelli of the Benedictine Abbey in France of 1510. The recipe was lost (some say during the French Revolution) and "re-discovered" by Alexandre le Grand in 1863 and began production as part of his own company.

The "DOM" on the label stands for deo optimo maximo, which roughly translates as "to greatest God." A marvelous historical artifact that shows how once the Christian church thought so highly of drinking that they would bequeath it to their Lord in Heaven.

Similar to Green Chartreuse but less expansive and less complex. It reminds me of Sore Throat Honey Lemon Lozenges.

A wonderful and favorite liqueur for Winter. Sweet, and complex, similar in many respects to Chartreuse though significantly more subtle. Most importantly, its the saviour of many a questionable Brandy investment. Benedictine is high on the list of any Winter survival kit.

A decently made spirit of some complexity, caramel coloring (and resulting taste). I am not a fan of this, but otherwise, kudos for an interesting spirit.

if you have never tried this, you should. the herb (including floral) flavors are really unusual and worth the price!
