Proof66 Notes

Door County Apple Flavored Brandy is a distillation of their own, homemade apple wine. This puts into a class of apple brandy similar in style to the French calvados apple brandies save that it isn't aged and isn't made in France. It is then given a slight sweetening and flavoring with an added infusion of apples. They call it "semi-sweet" and suggest serving on ice with a twist of lime or cranberry juice. Because it is sweetened and flavored, we have opted to list this as a liqueur, though it won't have the sweetness that one might associate with, say, a schnapps-style apple liqueur.

About the Producer:

Door County Distillery was founded in 2011 and is located in Wisconsin on the Door County Peninsula, a land feature plunging North in the upper part of Lake Michigan. Their marketing website claims 5 state parks, 11 light houses, and 300 miles of shoreline. In this setting, the distillery discusses the "genuine water" with "natural limestone and mineral notes" that provide a distinct flavor for their products. They use a traditional copper pot still to produce their spirits. The distillery is an expansion of the Door Peninsula Winery founded by Rob Pollman under the oversight of distiller Paul Santoriello (hat tip to the Peninsula Pulse). They regard themselves as one of the very few brewery, winery, and distillery all under one roof.
