Proof66 Notes

The "doctor" is Dr. Aloysius McGillicuddy "born" in the year 1808. The schnapps are results of the doctor's painstaking research through years of practice. According to the filing with the federal Tax and Trade Bureau the spirit is produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery under the ownership of Sazerac.

McGillicuddy's Intense Apple Pie liqueur is flavored, obviously enough, with apples, cinnamon, and sugar in that greatest of American traditions.

The 2013 Wine Enthusiast review (Kara Newman) notes an "assertive" green apple flavor (which we take to mean sour) and "syrupy sweet" character.

Very smooth and tastes fantastic, all the things you associate with apple pie are there and balanced well. I bought it to mix with, but ended up just drinking it straight because it really doesn't need to be mixed when made this well. At only $15 or so if you are looking for a sweet drink for around a summer fire, you could do a whole lot worse than this.

I usually like to drink high-proof liquor, with the occasional wacky mixer or whatever, but for some reason I just drank this bottle about a 5th of the way at a time, straight from the bottle. It's that good, and made with enough quality to prevent hangovers or nausea. You can clearly identify the different apple, cinnamon, whipped cream and crust components, very accurate flavor creation. People say that it's a sour type of apple flavor, I don't taste that. A tasty dessert treat for the holidays.

This is fantastic. I don't know what I'd mix it with, because it tastes so good on its own.

Not bad, but not great either. The apple is a tad sour. I also noted hints of cinnamon and a small part of sugar. As the 3 star rating indicates, it's drinkable.
