Tier 1
This is a Tier 1 score in the Liqueur category. It means the spirit has won the highest recommendation at least once and probably many times.

Notes

The "doctor" is Dr. Aloysius McGillicuddy "born" in the year 1808. The schnapps are results of the doctor's painstaking research through years of practice.

McGillicuddy's Fireball Cinnamon whiskey is a bit of a mystery. It does not currently (April, 2009) appear on their website. The term "whiskey" appears to not apply here due to the low-proof (though it's higher than the other schnapps) and general classification as a liqueur (Beverage Tasting Institute). Our best guess is that it qualifies as whiskey under some kind of Canadian definition of the term. We've opted to list it here as "schnapps."

As of 2010, it appears that marketing forces for Sazerac (or someone) has dropped the good doctor from the label. We have it listed for posterity for the time being. The new marketing website is replete with photos and video of massive partying.

The Huffington Post reports that there was litigation between Sazerac of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey and Hood River Distillers who make SinFire Cinnamon whisky, with the former sueing because of the similarity in names and marketing style. Which makes us wonder, how many bottles of cinnamon flavored whiskey has to be sold to pay for the attorney fees in something like that?

It tastes like hot balls and its not whiskey. It may be ok to mix with something. Other than that, leave it for the college kids.

Tastes like those cinnamon disk candies. I prefer to drink this very cold on frigid evenings.

3.5, I'm not a big schnapps guy but I was pretty impressed by this... It's sweet cinnamon whisky beautifully balanced. They did good with this...

Did not know the good doctor had made this. The cinnamon is at the level where it's not quite domineering, but it is certainly front and center.

I bought this to flavor bourbon on a camping trip. Taken straight... well, it's a schnapps and it's cinnamon. This satisfies on both counts being very sweet and having a huge cinnamon kick. It's very candy-oriented. I'm not sure what a more "pure" or "natural" cinnamon liqueur would taste like but this is like drinking a hard cinnamon candy. I can't imagine drinking it straight. But a light dash on top of an otherwise remarkable bourbon is quite nice.

A local bartender here added it to Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider. It was fantastic!

One of my go to bottles when I want a nice, neat drink. I must say i have a weakness for cinnamon, and this strikes that chord to the tee. Only complaint is the lowered proof...

I had my doubts about this one, but it actually tastes really good. It reminds me of those red candy cinnamon discs. Couldn't drink out all night, but tasty. Try it in some Rumchata...quite tasty!

This stuff rocks! Cheap, but so good! If you like cinnamon ofcourse, then you will love this whiskey! Great way to get the night started and its like a candy! Not hot to your mouth, but a warm sensation and great flavor. Even the girls like to take shots of it! "taste like heaven, burns like hell" is the saying on the bottle, it lacks the burn but its also my new favorite shot, great to sip, and good mixed with Dr. Pepper! Buy some!
