Liqueur - Liquor Base
Dr. McGillicuddy's Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey
This is a Tier 1 score in the Liqueur category. It means the spirit has won the highest recommendation at least once and probably many times.
The "doctor" is Dr. Aloysius McGillicuddy "born" in the year 1808. The schnapps are results of the doctor's painstaking research through years of practice.
McGillicuddy's Fireball Cinnamon whiskey is a bit of a mystery. It does not currently (April, 2009) appear on their website. The term "whiskey" appears to not apply here due to the low-proof (though it's higher than the other schnapps) and general classification as a liqueur (Beverage Tasting Institute). Our best guess is that it qualifies as whiskey under some kind of Canadian definition of the term. We've opted to list it here as "schnapps."
As of 2010, it appears that marketing forces for Sazerac (or someone) has dropped the good doctor from the label. We have it listed for posterity for the time being. The new marketing website is replete with photos and video of massive partying.
The Huffington Post reports that there was litigation between Sazerac of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey and Hood River Distillers who make SinFire Cinnamon whisky, with the former sueing because of the similarity in names and marketing style. Which makes us wonder, how many bottles of cinnamon flavored whiskey has to be sold to pay for the attorney fees in something like that?
