Proof66 Notes

Gran Gala orange liqueur is the Italian answer to the more famous and prevalent French orange and brandy liqueurs.

The Gran Gala website claims that they outscored Grand Marnier (presumably the cordon rouge version) in a 2002 competition. This presumably led to the slogan "Italy's answer to Grand Marnier."

The brand was formerly owned by Stock Spirits but was sold to US-based Sazerac in 2012. Formerly produced in Italy, it appears operations have moved to Czechoslovakia.

Good as a mixer only. Much too harsh to drink alone. However, it is one of the best in the mixer category.

Decent taste but way overpriced. The orange/citrus taste is completely dominated by a somewhat cheap brandy taste. Only usable as a mixer.

I haven't mixed a lot with it yet, but, I like the taste slightly better than La Belle Orange for the same price.  It doesn't smell quite as good, but, the flavor is slightly frutier and slightly less heavy handed on the sweet and savory flavors.  I like it.  I wouldn't drink it straight I use it in cocktails.

Not too fond of this - lots of needling and razor blade finish. Might be drinkable in mass quantities of juice or punch.

This stuff is ok, I guess. It's very, very sweet putting it just about in the syrupy, bottom-shelf triple-sec class of orange liqueurs. It has an interesting depth to the orange flavor that almost saves it and might be appealing to some folks. But it's so sweet. It might be good in some punches and large-scale beach parties but then, why are you paying $20 when a $7 bottle will do?
