Proof66 Notes

Luxardo Amaretto is described as having a "velvety" tate and "fragrant almond aroma." They're particularly proud of the bottle, which the website claims won the Millenium Project 2000 award.

Luxardo was founded in 1821 by one Girolamo Luxardo of Genova--but the founding liqueur was actually developed by his wife, Maria Canevari with a maraschino liqueur she made at home. Regrettably, the distillery was severely damaged by "indiscriminate and repeated Anglo-American bombing." It was rebuilt by the last surviving scion Giorgio Luxardo.

It's the epitome of a top-shelf liqueur. No really, it's so good that it makes Amaretto seem like a good idea. No weird aftertastes, not too sweet, and better than Disaronno for less money. Great balance of nut, apricot, and spice, fairly dark and complex for a sweet liqueur. You could actually get an amaretto sour or other cheesy crap tasting pretty classy with this stuff.

This is the best amaretto I have ever had. Unlike some of its more-marketed cousins, there is still bitterness from the almonds within the sweetness. Recommended for every use.

A refreshing change from the sticky syrupy that a lot of companies try to pass off as amaretto. While distinctly different from the French style of amaretto, this Italian amaretto is a standout.
