Proof66 Notes

Wild Turkey American Honey liqueur is a liqueur based upon the popular Wild Turkey whiskey flavored with "pure" American honey.

The American Honey brand replaced the Wild Turkey Liqueur with Honey in 2007. According to a blog report at Bikernet, distiller James Russell reformulated the brand (along with a new label) to bring forward the bourbon and return to the formula that was produced in the 1970s.

LOVE this. I Like sweet drinks, and this fits the bill as a sipper in the afternoons in the lawn chair, or by a fire, or when watching TV. I'm not a huge fan of bourbon but this lacks the harsh bite that usually puts me off. Also a good mixer from what I hear if you like those, but I tend to sip it straight or over a bit of ice.

Unlike Jack Daniel's honey, you get more citrus and spicy notes than honey in the nose and tastes more rougher. This is very drinkable with diet-coke or other low-sugar colas (i recommend you use low-sugar varieties as mixed with normal coke this can become INSANELY sweet).

Sweet but with a respectable whiskey flavor left. As with most liquors I would definitely recommend this over the Jack Daniels variety. I even found it sippable over a few ice cubes

My favourite honey whiskey but it is insanely sweet. Good with very tart lemonade or spiced cider. Retains some whiskey character.

Wild honey is the cheap alternative to Jack Daniels Honey.  In contrast to the jack it has more of a wiskey flavor, but is harsh and unrefined without bringing much complexity of flavor.  Pretty much the first flavor that hits your mouth is all your get.  Hold on to it for a mixer, but you won't find me drinking it straight.

I bought a bottle of this and it went pretty quick. Its quite sweet, and coupled with the impact of the alcohol, it can be pretty strong. This is definitely an aperitif style liqueur that goes well after the main course. Avid sippers may not like this because its syrupy sweetness and very mass market aims, but many such as myself need bridges like this to whet the appetite for something more challenging. If you are a novice sipper with a sweet tooth but are looking to become more of an aficionado, this is probably a good bottle to start with. From here you can work your way down into straight bourbon and then into whiskies.

I sampled 2 shots on a whim; the American Honey girls were at Gill St. when I was dining. They called the product a new bourbon under the Wild Turkey label, playing up the honey flavor which tempers the bourbon "burn." And it did, but since it was a cold night and I had a pork chop and winter lager in front of me - I wanted a more robust, fuller drink than this. Still, I could see capping off a dinner with it, over a cube or two of ice. Not bad. I can see a place for flavored bourbons, but would choose Beam's Red Stag over this product.
