Proof66 Notes

Wondermint Schnapps is designed to be a sweet--as all schnapps must be--but evade cloying or syrupy sweetness that can overtake some liqueurs. It is made in the northern European style of schokingly strong pepperming but here tempered with other flavors, including a bit of absinthe (courtesy of St George Spirits). It is made by contract at Death's Door Distillery in Wisconsin but owned and Managed by Nordic Distillers.

This is not your grandmother's -- or your college party's -- peppermint schnapps. Nowhere near as sweet, and with a green, floral herbal bitterness, this is a sipping schnapps that I really, really enjoyed. Far from being a shooter or mixer, I poured this over a couple of cubes in a snifter and sipped it. I didn't want to mix it; the subtleties of the other flavors would have gotten lost. It almost slides into gin territory; I may throw some in tonic next and see what happens.

new enough to not even be on their website at the This is a spirit that makes the legions of those who recoil from a sourly remembered college experience involving peppermint schnapps, this is sweetened just barely enough with some complexity that includes a drop of St George Spirits absinthe. This makes something that's traditionally horrifyingly sweet and toothpasty drinkable and lovely.
