Proof66 Notes

The Atlantico brand of rums is made inthe Dominican Republic from a blend of spirits distilled from both molasses (the classic method of rum preparation) and pressed sugar cane juice (a method used for rhum agricole and cachaca).

Atlantico Private Cask Extra-Aged rum is a blend of selected small-batch rums from the Dominican Republic selected by their master-distiller. The blend is aged for an additional time in another cask ("married" in some circles). The rum then undergoes a third aging in another set of barrels for an astonishing 15-25 years--the third aging is in the "solera-style" (this is a succession aging process where each container is only mostly drained for bottling before mixing with the next oldest barrel, which means there are traces of fantastically old spirit in each bottle as no barrel is ever fully drained).

Atlantico Rum received a 91 point rating from the Tasting Panel in 2009.

Spicy, medium-to-heavy mouth feel, buttery, fruity and spicy all at the same time, slight touch of sulfur and tobacco notes lets you know it is a molasses rather than a cane rum. Nutty, spicy, finish is long, but subtle. Slightly dry nutty finish with sweetness rather than a nasty sweet cloying that some rums have. Very gentlemanly, balanced, and of course diplomatic. Only negative point is the slightly harsh high ester smell and taste.
