Proof66 Notes

Bacardi Anejo rum is their aged expression presenting in a deep, brown color acquired from the oak. They say it is aged "up to 3 years" and is the original formula from 1862.

In a somewhat lukewarm review in 2013, the Beverage Testing Institute declared it "not very clean or appealing," then later in the same year remarking "pretty uneven."

Bacardi Rum was founded in 1862 in Santiago, Cuba by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso. The brand became inextricably linked to Havana, the daiquiri, and the Cuba Libre (rum and coke) at the turn of the century and through the gilded age. The company was strong until the Communist takeover in 1962. The plant was relocated to Puerto Rico where it remains to this day as one of the largest rum producers on earth. Today, it has also acquired a number of spirits over recent years and today have sales in excess of $5 billion. While the original company was founded in Cuba it's totally absent from the Communist country today and headquartered in Bermuda.

In general, I tend to view Puerto Rican rums as the lowest quality of the rum locations (Jamaica, Barbados, Carribean, Virgin Islands, Haiti etc) and they always taste like burnt plastic to me. This however is probably the most drinkable of the Bacardis, and does just fine neat, in coffee, with pineapple juice, and I assume in a colada or a punch drink. A nice vegetal flavor that actually has some flavor, though unfortunately there is still some remaining burnt plastic at the very end of the finish. Not bad, but for half as much you could have any of several superior Cruzan rums
