Proof66 Notes

This is the ubiquitous rum featured in just about every bar in the world. It is a rite of passage for every college student. The Bacardi Light is aged for a minimum of 12 months in oak and then filtered to remove color and the heavier oak flavors providing it a light flavor. Formerly known as the "superior light rum" it experienced a name change in 2015 changing to "carta blanca." Thankfully, for lovers of cave dwelling animals, the bat logo remains intact.

The 2012 Wine Enthusiast review found it to be a classically styled rum especially fit for Mojito cocktails.

Bacardi Rum was founded in 1862 in Santiago, Cuba by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso. The brand became inextricably linked to Havana, the daiquiri, and the Cuba Libre (rum and coke) at the turn of the century and through the gilded age. The company was strong until the Communist takeover in 1962. The plant was relocated to Puerto Rico where it remains to this day as one of the largest rum producers on earth.

Not terrible in my opinion, for a cheap mixer it's good. Works great with coke.

Despite having rather harsher burn than many other light rums, bacardi is perfectly acceptable mixer. This smells like an artificial pineapple, suntan lotion and shaving cream smell (or whatever you wanna call it, im pretty sure you all know what im talking about). For some reason though, this is the rum i prefer to mix my mojitos with compared to other smoother white rums with more character.

3.3/5 The standard rum for any bar. It's better than most light rums and works well in any rum driven cocktail. The taste is not nearly as hot as many "young" spirits due to the oak aging, but the flavor can disappear in some drinks.

I agree with the last reviewer. It is good for making mixed drinks. I don't drink light rum expecting to be blown away. It's inexpensive, it's not offensive, it gets the job done.

Great for what it's made for: mixed drinks.

I've only had this straight & I'll never do that again. Not for me... I'd rather sip a cruzan single barrel neat that mess around with this or it's counterparts that swim in soda.

I always keep a bottle of this on hand for guests who wish to defile their rum by mixing it with coke. I would not, however, waste the juice of a good lime on this.

Definitely a baseline mixing rum. For its purpose you cant beat the price. Abandon hope of complexity and sipping though

I love Bacardi, not because it's genuinely a pleasure to drink, but because when mixed you can barely tell it is there. It's not a rum to be savoured, it's not a rum to be sipped, it is one of the best ways of enjoying the effects of alcohol without the sometimes off-putting tastes of wood aging or artificial flavourings offered in the likes of vodka. One of the first drinks I could stand drinking a whole bottle of before I could afford to replace it, always nice to have some on hand even if you do not drink it yourself.

this stinky rum smells and tastes like a skunk, mixed with poison, or cancerous smoke in a bottle in liquid form (somehow, who knows??) but for $20...don't ask hard questions.  The Cruzan makes a fine buttery smooth showing, but, disappears in a drink.  I like the Bacardi for its rude, smokey nature.  A fine rum, to me, has a burnt kind of taste.  This one's like...burnt to a dead cremation, but, at least it's in there, so--I like it!!  For a few dollars less the Castillo is the same taste but less pungent for those with milder palletes.  From the same company.  It's stinky water with a kick.  What's not to love?

Just good enough to be considered a rum, but this is a mixer only. Practically tasteless, its only good point is its general smoothness. Not a sipping spirit at all.

Horrid. There's a distinctive taste that Bacardi rums have, whether light or dark, and it turns my stomach. Spend a couple more bucks and try Flor De Cana. Or, for that matter, spend a couple bucks less and try St. Elmo. Either is vastly superior (no pun intended).

Nice flavor... goes down thin. I regard this as a baseline rum.
