Bacardi Reserva Limitada Founder's Blend Puerto Rican Rum
This score falls in the 99th percentile of all spirits in the Rum category and is an example of the very best in its class.
The Bacardi Reserva is aged between 10 and 16 years and--as a limited edition--has been difficult to find outside of Puerto Rico. It is referred to as the "founder's blend" and a creation to honor the founder Don Facundo Bacardi Masso. The bottles are individually numbered and hand-sealed with a cork. It was finally available in the United States in 2010 when 1,000 cases were released.
Bacardi Reserva Limitada was declared one of The Best Spirits of 2010 by Anthony Dias Blue of the Tasting Panel Magazine with a 94pt rating. He said the rum was "mellow with a charming kiss of heat on the finish."
The 2012 Beverage Testing Institute suggested it as a "great choice for sipping with cigars." In 2013, they followed it up with "deliciously rich and flavorful." They followed it up in 2014 with "sensational flavourful and elegant."
Bacardi Rum was founded in 1862 in Santiago, Cuba by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso. The brand became inextricably linked to Havana, the daiquiri, and the Cuba Libre (rum and coke) at the turn of the century and through the gilded age. The company was strong until the Communist takeover in 1962. The plant was relocated to Puerto Rico where it remains to this day as one of the largest rum producers on earth. Today, it has also acquired a number of spirits over recent years and today have sales in excess of $5 billion. While the original company was founded in Cuba it's totally absent from the Communist country today and headquartered in Bermuda.
