Proof66 Notes

Caliche rum was first launched in 2012 as a premium white rum made from a traditional base of Caribbean molasses. It is aged for between 3 and 5 years in a solera system of oak casks (meaning small portions of the oldest rums are left to help "marry" and flavor the new rum coming into the cask). While the aging gives rum a bronze, golden color ("gold rum"), Caliche uses a charcoal filtration to remove color, which yields the clear silver rum with some vanilla and caramel notes still present from the aging. In an interview with Forbes, Gerber said, "If you sip it with your eyes closed, you would think it's a dark rum because it has intact all the rummy, woody notes." Caliche rum is made at the Serralles Distillery in Puerto Rico, home of well-regarded brands such as Don Q and Captain Morgan. The brand was founded and owned by Rande Gerber and Roberto Serralles, who form Caliche Rum, Inc.

The 2013 Beverage Testing Institute claimed it had a balance of "refinement" and "gusto."

I had this at a party this past weekend and it was a hit! It was the smoothest white rum I've ever had. The best part is, I woke up with no hangover the next morning.

Can't get enough of this rum! Tastes great in Caliche rum daiquiri's or in premium mojitos. The hints of citrus and vanilla go well with almost any mixed drink.

I'm usually more of a whiskey person, but I tried Caliche rum for the first time the other day. I was surprised at how smooth it was. It tastes great on the rocks or in a super premium mojito. I would definitely recommend this rum to anyone who hasn't tried it.

Tried this rum because of the price point. It was surprisingly smooth, and the best part was no hangover the next day - definitely will be getting some more.
