Proof66 Notes

Clement rums are made in Martinique and bottled at the traditional estate of the Clement family. The Simon Distillery produces rum that is bottled at Clement (also in Martinique) for the the French product that is known around the world. Clement was founded in 1887 by Homere Clement as a sugar refinery that was in operation until 1988. Today, while the rum is distilled at Simon it is still bottled on the estate.
(From Ministry of Rum)

Clement VSOP rum is given a brief aging in French oak for 1 year and then transferred to American bourbon barrels for an additional 3 years of aging.

The 2012 Beverage Testing Institute called the VSOP "a very nutty and attractive oak-driven" rum.

Was a bit disappointed and ended up mixing it instead of drinking it straight up.

Again find myself agreeing with Chris. Clement is a personal favorite at several price points.

Another excellent example of a Rhum Agricole. In this case a lightly aged one (compared to their other offerings that is). Again, well worth the extra money over the molasses stuff!

At The Rum Project (link below), Sue Sea and I have independently reviewed over 120 rums. Clement is one of the few cane juice style rums that can challenge Barbancourt in flavor, and that is close in price (around $32). If you have not tasted cane juice rums I suggest you start with Barbancourt's Three Star, then the Five Star (at $22). But VSOP is excellent, available and reasonable.
