Liquor Review Notes:
Don Q rums are made in Puerto Rico at the Serralles distillery and began production in 1865. There is a great write-up at the Liquid Muse describing how Serralles began a multi-million dollar investment in 2004 to remake their facilities to employ maximum sustainability. This includes waste C02 going to soda drink manufacturers, waste water being "polished" for irrigation, composting the solid waste products, and recycling the glass. The name Don Q is for Don Quixote, that most famous of all Spanish romantic heroes.

The Don Q Gran Anejo rum is blended with rums aged 3 to 9 years and is considered their premium offering.

Don Q Gran Anejo was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2010 SIP Awards.

If you want one of the best high end Puerto Rican rums this is it. If you are a fan of Puerto Rican rums it won't get much better. As to its overall standing for all rums from all countries in this age range? Well not quite as high. More body, spice, and complexity than the other dominant Puerto Rican rum. But I find Puerto Rican Rums a bit too lean and spare for my personal taste - but some of the others styles are so thick and complex they almost seem like a rum syrup.

A respectable rum for an anejo in that age range - but not a all out favorite. . Smooth, spicy, all the right wood aging notes and just enough fire to let you know you are drink real rum. Price is average for the age, it's very nice but for the price it should be.

A fantastic rum that goes well neat or on the rocks.
