Proof66 Notes

Malibu rum was first marketed in 1980 as the first flavored Caribbean rum. They have grown in popularity--particularly in Pina Coladas--and have expanded into a variety of flavors. Malibu Coconut rum is the first and still the most popular flavored rum from the Malibu line.

Ah, sure... it's not whiskey. But look: my sister and I have been making cocktails in pitchers for beach parties for years now. If you think it doesn't taste quite right, add Malibu. It can save damn near anything.

Sweet, chemical but still pretty enjoyable. Great as a starter.

A "Coconut Rum" that tastes more like sweet, suntan-lotion or coconut candle flavored vodka. Pretty harsh considering the 42 proof. Its great for mixing in tropical cocktails.

I hear you... I don't really like the stuff all that much. But my family and I have a long-standing tradition: if your beach cocktail isn't working out, it can usually be fixed by adding Malibu. There's something magical about it as a mixer.

3/5 This pretend coconut rum is everywhere. Though of a very low quality, it's very popular and easy to drink or mix with just about anything. I barely gave it a 3.0 due to it's mixing qualities, though I don't actively keep it at home. Friends have a habit of bringing it over when they want their favorite fruity cocktail. The scent is of grain alcohol and sugary coconut and I'd never recommend drinking it alone. Just stick to mixers.

Its nice to mix with but it has a smell that I can't compare to anything else except sun screen. but it does bring a sweet coconut taste to a drink.

Its good with cranberry juice if you're craving a girl drink. That's about it. Very weak.

I was at my buddy's 21st party. I had just started working at the liquor store. I put a half pint of this on my tab just to try it. Oh lord, lordy lordy. It was like Coppertone, Hawaiian Tropic, and a grain alcohol base had a three way. this was the result. If you mix this, make sure it is well hidden. So hidden, your guests won't know it's in there. Please do yourself a favor, and drain pour this one.

Again. This is not rum. This is sugar with some alcohol burn at the end. Super sweet, decent yet not far from the flavor you would expect from suntan lotion.... MIX PLEASE

This has the flavor profile of some cheap suntan lotion.  Simply horrid...

First off, let me clear something up: Malibu is not rum. Its coconut flavored sugar water with a dash of grain alcohol. With that out of the way, its hard to hate something like this because its sweet and easy to drink. That said, I don recommend sipping something like Malibu, only mixing, which it is perfectly adept at. Good taste, and gets the job its intended for done. No mysteries or tongue swirling for "notes" of things here. This is as manufactured as alcohol gets.
