Proof66 Notes

Myers's Dark Rum (notice the name "Myers" and the possessive 's for "Myers's" rather than the more common "Myers") is the quintessential dark rum and often considered a grade "darker" than even self-proclaimed dark rums from other labels. It is considered essential for a variety of tropical--especially Trader Vics--cocktails.

Myer's Dark rum is overrated and overprice .Its nose starts off with molasses, coffee. dark chocolate , and sulfur. The entry is smooth with palate of caramel, milk chocolate with sulfur cabbage taste in background and finish. Gosling Black Seal Rum and Prusser's British Rum are better rums for same price.

Heavy aroma that says MOLASSES with hints of dried fruits in this one. This definetly is not a sipper, as it burns too much without any complex flavors worth savoring slowly, but this is quintessential ingredient for tiki cocktails, especially for floating them on Zombies and Mai tais.

This definitely should be used as a mixer, for tiki type cocktails and maybe a daiquiri. It will taste too harsh to most if drunk neat, and you'd be better advised to use something else for a Rum & Coke. Very heavy molasses taste, probably because unlike with most rums, this one has molasses added to it AFTER distillation. Dried fruit flavors too, prunes, raisin etc, recommended mostly as a tiki mixer. I would personally prefer Cruzan Blackstrap which is both bolder and cheaper, or the very good Goslings dark (curiously I don't see an entry for it on this site).

Hi Jaketaz... did you mean the Gosling Black Seal Bermuda Black Rum? We have an entry for that label... would love to see your thoughts on that one as well.

3.7 stars you cant go wrong with myers, not super-complex or anything but a very tasty, "friendly" low priced dark rum, great for a dark daiquiri.

It has a little sting to it by itself, but it is absolutely delicious as a float on top of a scrumptious Rum Runner!

Not bad, but more like a dark rum for those who don't really want a dark rum.

Use it to soak fruit cakes. Imparts a great flavor (usually soak for a year min.).
