Proof66 Notes

Pusser's Rum was one made famous by the British Navy who issued its sailors a daily ration of rum by the ship's "purser," which would become corrupted to "pusser" and lends its name to the label today. The tradition of a pint of rum each day persisted until 1970. In 1979, Charles Tobias got the rights and formula to the British navy rum and began bottling the rum for sale in 1980.

Most complex rum I've had the pleasure to enjoy (coming from a whiskey drinker). Excellent in a rum old fashioned and in a painkiller.

Prusser's Rum nose is complex with oak, coffee, caramel ,vanilla, and spice, Prusser's Rum entry is smooth with palate of oak, dark chocolate ,. and cinnamon with ending with milk chocolate, cream sugar ,and with hint of cherry . Five star all the way.

Not a rum drinker, but I cracked a bottle just now. Needs breathing when opened. However, afterwards, it still stank like the Homer Formby formula I used to strip and then refinish a desk years ago. Paint remover/shellac kinda. There is an initial burn, the palate senses that the liquid tastes like it smells, albeit a finish that is a bit sweeter, although a bit sweeter ain't much sweet. Pussers ends up warm. but certainly not hot.. Minutes later, the aroma and finish will come at you again, as though from the sinuses and also the back of the palate. I doubt that you'll try this and then complain about its "sweetness". I sipped a dram - room temp. My guess is that if you were on a sailing vessel, rounding the Cape in stormy weather, wet, cold and despairing of life - a pint of this would be welcome. Of course, taste is largely subjective and there is little accounting for it. A Russian or Pole would likely prefer the straight heat of vodka if in a similar circumstance. It is merchandised neatly but has one of those lousy plastic corks, like a cheap wine. This not a vodka - obviously. Nor is it a whisky. However, I'll get back with it when the mood strikes, perhaps chilled, but never mixed. If it were used liberally in a rum cake, an eyebrow or two might be lifted, but I expect seconds on the cake would be requested. The review by Capn Jimbo below should be heeded. This rum is not loaded up with sugar and you can read the Capn's testing list on his website to see for yourself. Authentic!

Big and bold! Theres a little woodiness, a little brown sugar, a little orange peel, and a little heat. Drinking this neat leaves my lips a little tingly, but on the rocks it balances out nicely. I dont mix my rum; I prefer to sip it but this is one that probably works either way. One of my favorites.

One of my favorite rums period. Has bold, powerful aroma (even stronger than your typical Jamaican rums) that is unmistakably pussers. Kinda hard to describe the aromas going on in this man of rum, but like i said, it's bold, powerful aromatic and addictive rum that is real pleasure to drink straight or mixed. Goes great with spicy food and barbecued meats.

Very solid, bold rum. Perfect for mixing up an old "Grog". This stuff isn't for the amateurs though. Mixes well, but is perfect by itself - this is the stuff you'll put in your flask and work on your truck engine or have it handy whilst camping in the cool weather!

This is my favorite rum. Drink it straight. Rum and Coke. Just fantastic. Also great history. Drink this and feel like a member of Capt. Bligh's Royal Navy

At The Rum Project (link follows) Sue Sea and I have independently reviewed and scored over 120 rums. Here in S. Florida we met the son of the owner of Pussers, an interesting man. Pussers is completely authentic, authorized by the British government and uses the secret Admiralty formula of 5 island rums. It is powerful, aromatic and a real rum. Not for pussycats. We'd never be without a bottle. For this and many more honest reviews: http://rumproject.com/rumforum//viewtopic.php?t=85
