Proof66 Notes

Avion Silver tequila is their unaged expression and considered the purest expression of the agave. They promise "intense herbal tinges of mint and rosemary."

Avion Silver was named Best Unaged White Spirit and Best Silver Tequila at the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Avion tequilas are made at 7,000 feet above sea level where they feel the best agave is grown. It is roasted in traditional brick ovens. The tequila is filtered through what they call an "Ultra Slow Filtration," which they feel makes it the smoothest in the world. The brand was founded by Ken Austin and Kenny Dichter as the company Avion Spirits, LLC... the word itself is said to translate as "airplane." In 2011, Pernod Ricard announced exclusive distribution rights to Avion tequila and then in 2014 increased their stake in the company to majority ownership.

The best Silver I’ve tasted so far, very complex! Layered flavors of citrus, agave, black pepper, & olives with a smoky presence as well – very interesting. There’s even a chocolaty sweetness that shows mid palate through the finish. The only weakness I find is that it has a thin mouth-feel, but I think most Silver’s do. Perfect by itself over some ice and PHENOMENAL in a margarita. This is something you can drink that won’t wear out your palate. Very clean and smooth! I know this stuff gets a lot of marketing buzz, but it does not disappoint! Five Stars!

Very smooth blanco with notes of sweet agave with citrus and earth. Although this isn't the most complex blanco out there, it is very smooth with good agave flavor that's gonna shock people whos never drank good tequila nor gonna offend experienced drinkers.

Much better than I had anticipated. Peppery, salty, slight smoke, and has a mintiness about it that's unique. I like how the pepper and a little bit of heat linger on the finish for a while. If the Reposado and Anejo are as good as the silver I'm in for a pleasant afternoon of tasting.

My favorite silver. Very smooth with great taste and very little bite. Great on the rocks. Not the right tequila for mixed drinks as the flavor will get lost.

One of the best tequillas I've tasted. It starts with a wonderful grassy, vegetal aroma. Then it's pure agave on the palate; spicy, floral and bursting in flavor. A very smooth and balanced tequila. Wonderful! For the more reviews, and the results of our tequila taste test, please visit ProfessorCocktail.com.

This is an unremarkable silver tequila. It doesn't offend, but it lacks any defining character compared to other silvers, including many that are much cheaper. The nose is pretty standard fare for tequila, and the taste is a typical smooth pepper, but that is all. As with the many young spirits companies popping up these days, a lot more effort seems to have been placed on crafting the image of the tequila, not the tequila itself.   I would find it very hard to justify purchasing this at the $40+ listed here, although I'm almost certain it can be had much cheaper in depending on the region. But even still, that isn't enough to save it against competition like Senor Rio (at a similar price point), or against great bottles from Puerto Vallarta or Three Amigos for much less.
