Proof66 Notes

Don Julio tequilas are named for Julio Gonzales who founded the La Primavera distillery in 1942 in order to control all the process of tequila craft from harvesting to bottling.

Don Julio anejo tequila is the aged version of the Don Julio line of tequilas. It's aged in oak and considered to have "notes of cherries and strawberries with vanilla and oaky butterscotch."

Very nice sipping tequila. Not quite 1941 but darn close.

Really good but not great. Ranked 4th behind 1942, Siete Leguas, and Casa Noble in my opinion.

My standard for Anejos to date. Too many anejos try to be whiskey, and the overly oaked character destroys the agave essence. This is an exception. Marvelous baked agave with butterscotch and vanilla is not overpowered by the soft oak frame. Very slight tropical fruit tones for me, maybe coconut and pineapple.

This is one of the first ultra-premium tequila that i have tried and really what started my journey into world of tequilas. Its a sweet tequila with nose of agave, vanilla, butterscotch with hints of fruits (grapefruit, strawberries) with butterscotch-laden agave flavor with licorice-like aftertaste. It is very smooth and easy to drink and is excellent for both afficionados and newbies alike. Don Julio makes Patron look terrible, considering that they both compete in the ultra-premium category.

One of my personal favorites, but this sipping tequila is one that I keep on hand for when company is over. It's smooth and has a nice flavor that should be pleasing to most anyone.

Fairly expensive, but entirely worth the money. I haven't found an anejo that I prefer over Don Julio.

4.5/5. I like this tequila. Its common in restaurants and bars, so it is often the best tequila on site. I prefer Siete Lequas, but this is fine and findable.

(4 out of 5). This was the first añejo I tried, so I have a sentimental attachment, but the juice is good regardless. It's a mostly one note tequila, as others have noted, but that one note is great. Very sweet nose with butterscotch, vanilla and cooked agave, and more dessert sweetness on the palate. If El Tesoro is a whiskey drinker's añejo, this is for a cognac drinker. Slightly lacking in the finish, but otherwise great. Not as good as El Tesoro or Siete Leguas, but it's often the best tequila at a store or bar, depending on their selection. $54 in my area.

While I like EL Tesoro's a little bit better how can I not give this great reviews when there are so many bottles of horrible tequilla running around the market. This is solid, smooth, simple tequilla. Doesn't quite capture much of the cask flavor as ET but it's nice nonetheless.

This is very good. It is very smooth, has a good flavor and is easy to drink. With that said, I wish it had more bite. I do not believe this is worth the price.

I love the Don's silver, so I got this to have around for a tequila to sip and drink neat. It has a nice complexity of flavor, and you defnitely get a good agave note along with more subtle oaky and vanilla notes. Lighter bodied than I expected... It's not very smooth, though, which initially put me off (I was a whiskey drinker looking for a smoother tequila) -- so it didn't hit the mark I was looking for, but it has enough complexity to make up for any loss in burn. I should still say, it's definitely "smooth" compared to what most people are drinking when it comes to tequila, but all that just to say this stuff has some bite to it on the finish. Although I like this bottle, I'm still on the look for a smoother anejo or reposado to use for slowly drinking neat tequila.
