Proof66 Notes

Don Julio tequilas are named for Julio Gonzales who founded the La Primavera distillery in 1942 in order to control all the process of tequila craft from harvesting to bottling.

Don Julio Reposado tequila is rested in oak for "up to" 11 months (a bit longer than the required 6). It is said to have hints of cinnamon and dark chocolate.

In March, 2015, liquor giant Diageo completed the acquisition of the Don Julio brand from Jose Cuervo in exchange for the Bushmills Irish whiskey brand and cash.

Great reposado from a great brand. Has aromas of agave, vanilla, grapefruit, pear with hint of oak. The same flavors continue on the palate along with caramel followed with spicy, licorice finish (typical finish you get in entire Don Julio lines of tequilas). Don Julio is just great for Tequila lovers and also for introducing people fine Tequilas.

(4.5 out of 5). Don Julio is simply an excellent line of tequilas. Of the three standard models, this was the last I tried, and I wasn't disappointed. It might have my favorite smell of any of the three- oak, agave, and a rich pear smell that's just fantastic. It's somewhat light on the palate, but with a great balanced flavor, and a surprisingly long lasting finish. A great sipping reposado, and I think bourbon lovers would enjoy it. $53 in my area.

The vanilla from the oak is fairly strong and pear is readily apparent! This is what makes it so enjoyable for us bourbon lovers!

Very smooth. I get more of a caramel than chocolate as stated in the tasting notes. Very nice

A real boss of a spirit. Everything that can be good in an aged tequila. Complex with a sweet earthiness and pleasant wood tones. Very good as a sipper. With a bit of Gran Marnier and some lime juice and simple syrup, it makes my favorite margarita themed cocktail ever.
