Proof66 Notes

Casa Herradura was one of the oldest and most storied of the tequila brands. The name "Herradura" is translated as "horseshoe" from Spanish and graces their namesake tequila label, though they also quietly produce other labels as well. Brown-Forman purchased Tequila Herradura and is now the owner of both Herradura and Jimador labels of tequila. The distillery itself was founded in 1861.They take credit for being the first distillery to try aging their tequila in oak (creating the "reposado" and "anejo" expressions) in imitation of aging eau-de-vie to make cognac. El Jimador Anejo is aged for twelve months in virgin white oak.

Our own tasting at the Tasting Panel 2010 Chicago Tour we said "The tequila was surprisingly tasty with a buttery nature we sometimes associate with good rums. There is everything right and nothing wrong about this unassuming (and largely un-marketed) tequila. It's like going to the country and meeting the farmer's daughter and finding out she can rock the dance floor all night long at a bar where everyone drinks Coors beer at $1.50 a pint instead of $30 martinis."

El Jimador Anejo tequila was awarded the Platinum - Best in Class at the 2010 SIP Awards Competition.

El Jimador Anejo was tied for Best Anejo Tequila at the 2010 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

One of the better offering from Casa Herradura in my opinion. Has very interesting nose of agave, cinnamon, berries, caramel. Has very oak-forward taste you often associate with whiskeys. Very interesting and flavorful tequila that won't hurt your wallet.

Not to sure how this one ranks so high. Has a very long after taste. This is a tequila that you will taste the next morning. Has a strong oak barrel sweet Whiskey after taste that just will not go away. I am not a Whiskey fan so really was unhappy.
