Proof66 Notes

Tequila Tapatio is owned by the Camarenas family whose progenitor Don Felipe taking control of the distillery in 1937 (the La Altena Distillery). The family grows their own agave--the tequila could be considered estate tequila for that reason. Their tequila is known as El Tesoro de Don Felipe in the United States and is their only tequila label. Every bottle is bottled by hand. Beam, Inc acquired the label in 2011.

Tesoro Paradiso Anejo tequila is a special creation of owner Don Felipe Camarena and Alain Royner (cognac producer). El Tesoro anejo tequila is aged five years in cognac barrels taking on a "remarkable elegance."

El Tesoro Paradiso was named Best Ultra-Aged Anejo Tequila at the 2012 San Francisco World Spirits Competition

In a superb review from the 2011 Beverage Testing Institute, they declared the Paradiso an "Epic sipping tequila."

Named Top Tequila in the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

This is an excellent sipping tequila with notes of honey, oak, agave, floral notes with hints of cinnamon. Unlike other Extra Anejos, this one is not about your typical caramel, vanilla and oaky tones often associated with ultra-aged products, with more floral notes apparent in the juice. Whatever the case, the most important thing is this is just epic for sipping.

5/5, it's pretty darn cool. Just a beautiful spirit. Keep in mind that this is aged around 5 years, so purists looking for more agave should look to the less cask influenced anejo & reposado. Those of you just looking for a phenominal sipping spirit have found a winner. The profile is sweeter (cognac barrels I believe) which presents a classy balance between agave & cask qualities. It was the finest tequilla I'd had until I tried it's older sibling a few minutes later (anniversario)...

There can't possibly be a better tequila. Totaly unique and unlike any other. It is hard to put into words. Something that must be tried to be believed. I was reluctant to pay this much for a tequila but in hindsight it was worth every penny. So rich and full of flavor; If you can find the Paradiso it is an absolute must buy!!!!!!!
