Proof66 Notes

Herradura Seleccion Suprema tequila is their extra-anejo expression ("extra aged"). It was first launched in 1995 as the premium edition for sophisticated connoisseurs of tequila. It is aged for 4 years (a bit longer than the minimum 3 years for the extra-anejo label) in oak, giving it a deep color and whiskey like vanilla/caramel aromas and flavors. They suggest looking for flavor notes of cinnamon and rose petal in addition to the oak.

For only the second time we're aware of, the Beverage Testing Institute awarded it a full 100 point rating in 2013 claiming it had an "endless, evolving finish."

Casa Herradura was one of the oldest and most storied of the tequila brands. The name "Herradura" is translated as "horseshoe" from Spanish and graces their namesake tequila label, though they also quietly produce other labels as well. Brown-Forman purchased Tequila Herradura and is now the owner of both Herradura and Jimador labels of tequila. The distillery itself was founded in 1861.They take credit for being the first distillery to try aging their tequila in oak (creating the "reposado" and "anejo" expressions) in imitation of aging eau-de-vie to make cognac.

This is easily the best Herradura and one of the best tequilas i have had pleasure of sipping. Starts with typical Herradura nose with green agave, vegetal notes, oak, cramael, moscato, cherry and raisins. Tastes vegetal yet slightly sweet with green agave with oak, caramel, dried fruits and grape notes. Despite being Extra-anejo, this finishes surprisingly hot, and agave is not too muted, which is often a problem encountered with extra aging of tequilas. Incredibly complex and truly majestic tequila. Only reason i refuse to give 5 stars is cause of its extreme pricing, for $300+ i would never purchase a bottle.
