Proof66 Notes

Herradura Silver tequila is very lightly aged for one month in white oak barrels. Drink Hacker gave this tequila a B+-rating was fine if the commentary was a bit lukewarm, "if you're looking for a good standby tequila that you can rely on and, equally importantly, is sure to be in stock wherever you go, Herradura's a solid."

Herradura Blanco was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2010 SIP Awards.

Casa Herradura was one of the oldest and most storied of the tequila brands. The name "Herradura" is translated as "horseshoe" from Spanish and graces their namesake tequila label, though they also quietly produce other labels as well.Brown-Forman purchased Tequila Herradura and is now the owner of both Herradura and Jimador labels of tequila. The distillery itself was founded in 1861.They take credit for being the first distillery to try aging their tequila in oak (creating the "reposado" and "anejo" expressions) in imitation of aging eau-de-vie to make cognac.

This is very Unique and very complex blanco that has notes like grape, olives, honey and light oak rather than your typical citrus, pepper notes. Not really a fan though as it tends to finish rather unplesantly (as with all Herradura tequilas). Its a noteworthy tequila for the complexity and uniqueness though.

Herradura seems to me to be targeting the white wine/champagne crowd, what with the distinct white grape character to the flavor and nose. The other immediate read I got was Spanish olives, so maybe this might make an interesting non-martini martini. As always, sweet pepper is the anchor for the taste, but this is a generally smooth - if not remarkably so - silver tequila.  Can't say I'd purchase a bottle, but against other tequila mainstays it cuts a defiant niche for itself, and has one of the most surprising noses and flavor profiles I've had in a tequila.

Herradura Silver is my go to tequila when it comes to making a classic margarita. If you want a sipping tequila, go añejo but when it comes to using tequila in recipes, especially paired with citrus juice, Herradura Silver will leave you pleased.
