Proof66 Notes

KAH Day of the Dead tequilas are meant to commemorate the Dia de lost Muertos or "Day of the Dead" in Meso-American culture. The bottles are made of ceramic in the shape of festive but gruesome skulls, which themselves are modeled from skulls made of sugar for the holiday (calaveras). The tequila is 100% certified organic and kosher.

This is a very good tequila, but I am not sure where the astronomical rating comes from. Well above average, perhaps even great, and it has a good price (~$35). That said, it is not my favorite. It is a step above the Kirkland, Milagro, etc tier, but not as good as the absolute best ones. Nor is it priced to compete with the absolute best tequilas. I generally prefer Siete Leguas to this, though it is almost double the price. Tasting this, its got a nice, earthy, roasted agave-forward taste. I get some hints of pineapple and maybe even some stone fruit. Fairly sweet, but right in the area I like for tequila. All in all, a good tequila at a great price. But, it does not earn the rating proof66 has generated for it at this point.

Better than run-of-the-mill blancos, but I don't get the high praise. Too much alcohol burn and too little agave essence shifts its balance closer to vodka or neutral grain spirits for me.

A excellent blanco. Has pure, sweet nose of agave with citrus and grass notes. You get the same notes on the palate with moscato-like aftertaste. One of the best blancos in terms of agave flavor profile alone. Often i prefer aged tequilas over blancos but for this brand, the blanco is my favorite.

Sweet on the nose with a decent flavor. Bit of a large kick for a blanco but still a recommendation.
