Proof66 Notes

The Roca Patron line of tequila was released in 2014 to satisfy the demand for "a more complex, agave-forward tequila" in the words of marketing chief Lee Applbaum in an interview with Marketwatch. The term "roca" is a reference to the 2-ton rock that is used to crush the agave in the traditional method (hence "artesenal") where the vast majority of large-scale tequila is made with steel mills shredding the agave. The resulting juice and some of the fibers are fermented and distilled together to create a stronger agave flavor.
