Proof66 Notes

49th Parallel vodka is made in Canada and named for the latitude at which its bottled. We're told this is a 100% corn-grain vodka, certified gluten-free, GMO-free, and kosher. They claim to use a proprietary cold filtering process though it sounds similar in premise to the "chill filtering" done on many whiskeys that filter out fatty acids providing a lighter, crisper style of spirit. They also mention that they're certified gluten-free, though we must (wearily) point out that all distilled spirits are gluten free by definition so this is sort of like claiming that your cocktail shrimp is peanut free. Perhaps slightly more applicable, they claim to use non-GMO grain. The label is owned by Ironside Beverages.

In response to our snide comment about gluten-free spirits, the producer offered the following comment... something they clearly take very seriously. "While the argument continues regarding the presence of Gluten post distillation, the argument does not exist when you approach it from a 'Cross- Contamination' perspective. The fact is that many/most distilleries are manufacturing many different products and spirits, and in that process of manufacturing and filling, there is a cross contamination that occurs which then elevates the gluten content above the accepted levels... this is important because Celiac individuals can drink '49th' and be CERTAIN that they will have no adverse reaction - regardless of the argument that people have over it."

How To Drink It
