Proof66 Notes

Absolut is famous for flavored vodkas and great marketing. Absolut Karnival was released in time for Carnival in 2014 and a re-release of the flavored vodka developed for Absolut Miami in 2012, featuring passion fruit and orange blossom.  (Absolut Miami is the 2012 limited edition expression from the Absolut Cities campaign to celebrate specific attributes of various cities, in this case the famous city of nightlife Miami. This is the sixth release in the series and in this case takes the flavor of passion fruit and blends it with signature fruit of the state of Florida, viz. the orange blossom. They claimed in a Miami Herald article to be "distilling the essence of Miami in a bottle.")

(Will Gordon of Serious Eats casually mentioned that it might've been flavored with "cocaine and fish," which also might have been an interesting flavor.)

About the Producer:

Absolut claims "all natural ingredients" with "no added sugar." It officially began production in 1979 and, to this day, they take great pride in their production facilities in Ahus, Sweden where "every drop of water" comes from a single "deep well." The vodka uses a soft winter wheat for its base. The brand is owned by French-based Pernod-Ricard.

Absolut vodka is one of the top-selling brands of vodka in the world and is one of the great visionaries in the marketing of vodka. Their aggressive and occasionally scandalous ads in the nineties helped launch the cocktail culture.

I had high hopes for Absolut Miami, but was disappointed.  Has a heavy, oily quality that I don't like.  The flavor is indeed unique, but I can't seem to get it to "work" in any cocktail I put it in.  The best I could come up with was to use it in a Cosmo.  In the end it was nice to try, but I won't be stocking a bottle.
