Vodka - Wheat
Bluewater Organic Vodka
This is a Tier 3 score in the Vodka category. It means critics recommended the spirit but it will be a value brand or have an exotic taste.
Bluewater Organic Vodka is made from a base of 100% organic wheat, a popular base in French and Russian-style vodkas, and then blended down with Cascade Mountain spring water. It is made with a commitment to zero additives, 100% organic ingredients, and made completely from traditional batch-still methods. This implies to us both a human artistry in the vodka and suggests potential light variations from bottle to bottle (much like freshly made salsa might vary batch-to-batch even when using the same recipe).
In our own tasting of Bluewater Vodka, we found it bet served straight for all those out there that enjoy the Russian tradition of chilled shots.
Bluewater Organic Distilling was founded by John and Jessica Lundin in Everett, Washington and whose stated intent is to blend craftsmanship and business ethics for a singularly strong and high quality brand name. The "bluewater" name is an homage to their love of glaciers, rivers, and ocean voyages. They work with traditional, hand-hammered copper pot stills heated by direct fire (cross-reference with more industrial-grade continuous column stills heated by more modern means). They're also committed to 100% organic ingredients (certified by the USDA) and bottle with American-made glass (most of the world's glass is produced in China). Finally, they're proud members of the 1% for the Planet club, showing their commitment to the "business ethics" portion of the mission statement.
