Proof66 Notes

Boyd & Blair Potato vodka is named for "two guys and a copper pot still" who set out to make what they consider a classic vodka. Their vodka is made in traditional small batches, mashing their own locally grown potatoes and signing the bottles by hand before shipping. The "two guys" involved are Prentiss Orr and Barry Young. The vodka itself is named for Barry Young's late father-in-law (James Boyd Rafferty) and Prentiss Orr's great-grandfather (William Blair).

Pennsylvania Pure Distilleries was founded by Prentiss Orr and Barry Young in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania.

Aroma is all potato - as if you are standing over a pot of freshly cut potatoes. Tasted neat - it is a little warm with some needling on the under side of the tongue. The immediate flavor profile is again all potato, but it's clean and silky. Chilled with a couple ice cubes, the aroma smooths out a bit, but the flavor profile is still all potato with just a touch of char on the finish. Not sure it's better than Tito's, but it's quite pleasant. My guess is that this would be very good out of the deep freezer.

Most interesting potato vodka I have tried. Different right away at the nose and after several sips, it should grow on you. Good stuff.

By far the best vodka I have ever imbibed. Had some friends over and we put it up blindly against Chopin, Ketel One and Belvedere and it was picked first every time. I know it is available in Georgia now but not so sure where else you can get it outside of Pennsylvania. Highly reccomended!
