Crystal Head Vodka
This score falls in the 91st percentile of all spirits in the Vodka category and is an example of the very best in its class.
The name "crystal head" is taken from the legend of 13 different crystal skulls scattered throughout the earth by some lost civilization of advanced arts. The brand itself was founded by Canadian-born actor Dan Aykroyd (of Ghostbusters fame among others) and John Alexander in 2008. They claim they are avid researchers and devotees of the crystal skull legend... presumably honoring the mystery with vodka. In an interview with Tasting Panel Magazine (May, 2013), Akroyd states "We are selling enlightened drinking, positive thinking and the spirit of positive energy." While Akroyd owns the brand, the spirit itself is produced by contract at the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation.
In 2015, Crystal Head released their "Aurora" bottle, which features an iridescent finish to the glass meant to resemble the northern lights (aurora borealis). As best we know, the vodka is the same in a differently (and much cooler) styled bottle.
Crystal Head vodka--obviously presented in exactly that: a crystal head bottle--is produced "1,000 miles east of any polluted air or water" in Newfoundland, Canada. The spirit itself is made from a blend of wheat and corn, which to us implies a slight sweetness to the vodka with a classic, French/Russian style wheat finish. It is filtered through Herkimer Diamonds and bottled with no additives whatsoever. The bottle was developed by Italian glass-maker Bruni Glass.
