Rating Description

Tier 2
This is a Tier 2 score in the Vodka category. It means critics have highly recommended the spirit as a benchmark in the category.

A. Smith Bowman considers itself the oldest family-owned bourbon distillery in the United States having been founded in 1935 by Abram Smith Bowman. This until Sazerac purchased them very recently. They first began production on their family farm at the end of prohibition (and dare we speculate slightly before then end?). They moved to a larger facility (taking over a cellophane plant) in 1988. Today, they're one of the few bourbons made outside of the state of Kentucky.

Deep Run Vodka is named for a lake called "Deep Run" in the middle of Virginia and lies near the distillery. We presume this is a re-branding of the original "Bowman's Vodka."
