Vodka - Wheat
Gera Premium Vodka
This score falls in the 99th percentile of all spirits in the Vodka category and is an example of the very best in its class.
Gera vodka is made from Lithuanian wheat and blended down with spring water. They say what differentiates the vodka is a "patented octal process," where they reduce the temperature of the spirit and oxygenate to remove "unwanted odors and gas impurities." For this process, they declare themselves "the innovative vodka."
Gera vodka is produced at Alita AB in Lithuania, a group of Lithuanian companies forming in 2009. They also own the label. JAE Imports of Texas is the importer and has exclusive rights in the US.
Here at Proof66, we had the opportunity to put Gera through a vigorous tasting and found it a very pleasing vodka (see the full write-up here).
The 2011 Beverage Testiing Institute review detected aromas of "macadamia gelato and porcelain" (!) and declared it to be a "sensationally pure, smooth and stylish vodka." They followed it up in 2012 by claiming it was "superbly stylish," which is saying something for a vodka! It achieved a third 96 point rating in 2013 and again in 2014... an unprecedented run of awards.
Gera was given a 4-Star rating (out of 5) in the 2013 Spirits Journal (Paul Pacult) who said, "Worth every penny... superb value."
Gera was awarded a Platinum Medal in the 2013 SIP Awards (in a field of 30 vodkas and 1 of 7 Platinum Award winners).
Gera was awarded a Gold Medal in the 2012 Beverly Hills International Spirits Awards (the contest's first year of competition).
