Proof66 Notes

Gera vodka is made from Lithuanian wheat and blended down with spring water. They say what differentiates the vodka is a "patented octal process," where they reduce the temperature of the spirit and oxygenate to remove "unwanted odors and gas impurities." For this process, they declare themselves "the innovative vodka."

Gera vodka is produced at Alita AB in Lithuania, a group of Lithuanian companies forming in 2009. They also own the label. JAE Imports of Texas is the importer and has exclusive rights in the US.

Here at Proof66, we had the opportunity to put Gera through a vigorous tasting and found it a very pleasing vodka (see the full write-up here).

The 2011 Beverage Testiing Institute review detected aromas of "macadamia gelato and porcelain" (!) and declared it to be a "sensationally pure, smooth and stylish vodka." They followed it up in 2012 by claiming it was "superbly stylish," which is saying something for a vodka! It achieved a third 96 point rating in 2013 and again in 2014... an unprecedented run of awards.

Gera was given a 4-Star rating (out of 5) in the 2013 Spirits Journal (Paul Pacult) who said, "Worth every penny... superb value."

Gera was awarded a Platinum Medal in the 2013 SIP Awards (in a field of 30 vodkas and 1 of 7 Platinum Award winners).

Gera was awarded a Gold Medal in the 2012 Beverly Hills International Spirits Awards (the contest's first year of competition).

Everything you want in a good vodka- extremely clean and clear taste with almost no flavor, but quite smooth nonetheless. Very little burn- the least of any vodka I have tried. Trying it made me a believer in their supposedly novel process. I would not drink it straight, but I generally would not drink any vodka straight because of how flavorless it is. Other vodkas do have more flavor and are nicer for drinking straight. But, this is my new go-to for mixing a drink, particularly given the reasonable price (~$20 for 1.75).

I absolutely love this vodka, it tastes great and doesn't burn at all like most other alcohol..... its one of those drinks that will really sneak up on you but you won't experience a hangover the next day at all.

It's OK. I would say this is your average Vodka. I think the rating on this is a little higher than it should be. Has a slight rubbing alcohol like smell to it. Mixes well with anything almost, not a very good vodka for drinking straight though.

In a head-to-head matchup with top-selling, wheat-based vodkas, Gera can enter the field confidently and stand up and even surpass them in some settings. It’s very best performance is unmixed where its distinctive flavor profile isn’t forced to compete against anything else. As a shooter and even as a sipper, for those of you who like to shoot frozen vodka and chase it with caviar, this is a great choice. As you start mixing, opinions start to diverge. There’s no point in buying this, or any other top-shelf vodka, as you wander off of martini-level ratios. But for those classic, connoisseur type settings, Gera is an excellent value with singular charisma.
