Vodka - Sugarcane
This is a Tier 2 score in the Vodka category. It means critics have highly recommended the spirit as a benchmark in the category.
Hawaiian vodka is distilled from sugar cane juice rather than the more customary grain (or the more exotic potato). It is different from rum in that it is not aged and distilled to a very high proof prior to bottling. It is made by Island Distillers, on the island of Oahu, founded by Dave Flintstone who trained in the rum manufactures of the Caribbean prior to locating his business in Hawaii. The vodka is purified through lava rock prior to bottling.
The reviewers at the 2011 Beverage Testing Institute picked up on the sugar cane when they said "Reminiscent of a rum with a soft, silk dryish medium body" and recommended it specifically for "fruity cocktails."
