Infused Vodka - Citrus
Ivanabitch Lemmon Vodka
This is a Tier 2 score in the Vodka category. It means critics have highly recommended the spirit as a benchmark in the category.
Ivanabitch vodka is half-marketing, half vodka. It's a Dutch product made from a wheat base, making a classic, smooth, clean-tasting vodka. The marketing aspect--aside from the brand name--is that the spirit is based upon an old Russian recipe, including charcoal filtering (a technique actually invented by Vladamir Smirnov of Smirnoff Vodka). The current marketing angle is that a mythical Dmitri Ivanabitch invented the recipe in 1666 in order to "avoid freezing his ass off in the Urals." The brand is owned and imported by International Spirits of Florida.
Ivanabitch Lemmon (notice the unusual spelling) vodka is a citrus flavored expression. The spelling is said to come from Lemmon island where the mythical Dmitri and his friend Darcy Chekkov sought and discovered lemons, which were so tasty they needed the extra "m."
The 2012 Beverage Testing Institute found it very sweet, calling it "candied" and "almost a liqueur."
