Proof66 Notes

Ketel one is from Holland and handcrafted in small batches using traditional recipes. The name comes from the "original distilling kettle number one." It is filtered through charcoal and distilled from wheat. On 8/13/08 in Rotterdam, in a celebration of femininity, the world's largest martini glass made of ice:

How To Drink It

For a nice summer cocktail, try 3 parts Ketel One (or any nice vodka), 1 part St Germain Elderflower Liqueur, and some fresh mint leaves. Shake a few times and pour over ice. - Proof66 Staff

The nose is mildly ethanol. not overpowering. The palate is peppery and into the tongue and the inside of the cheeks - and somewhat persistent. It is smooth on the back but it is biting until swallowed. That is room temp, obviously. As a contrast, I think a mouthful of Blue Ice is quite different and a better experience. Prairie Organic Vodka is also much smoother and lacks that peppery, persistent bite. I would rate K1 above Absolute or Stoli 80 - but that ain't saying much. So, considering the NON-GMO statement, a plus but also considering the outrageous pricing, 3 stars about sums it up. Now, I did not chill or flavor it, since that changes everything. No frozen lime peel. If I put my 40% ABV Everclear + Fiji H2O in the Ketel One bottle, many would suppose that Ketel One had improved. Just sayin...It's just vodka - neutral grain spirit at 95%ABV diluted with water to 40% ABV. No barrel, no storage, into the bottle directly and on the truck/boat and sitting at the store instanter. It doesn't improve much with the addition of a frozen lime/ Mandarin Orange slice.

Just an okay vodka. A step above bargain brands, but for less money Tito's, Stoli or Reyka are better choices.

Ketel One is one of the few which declare their wheat source as NON-GMO. I haven't had any for years and it is obviously too expensive for vodka..

I find this vodka, as well as Tito's, quite enjoyable. Drink it in either martini or vodka-tonic, although have also had it in it's lemon (citron) version in a Cosmopolitan. Don't understand the "off flavor" comments of many here. to me it's just crystalline, smooth vodka

Definitely overrated and not worth the price, but otherwise not terrible and less overrated than grey goose for example.

I don't see myself becoming a regular vodka drinker...outside of cocktails anyway. This one has a more refined flavor than Grey Goose; really not bad on the palate, but the aroma is severely lacking. The nose reminds me of the chemicals I add to the hot tub.

Seriously overrated. There are two remarkable things about Ketel One: its intense rubbing alcohol aftertaste; and its marketing campaign, which has successfully convinced people that this is worth what it costs.

For my go to cocktail, it's always K1. It's great on the rocks and I love a Dirty Ketel.

Again, I thing the hype is in the name. Decent vodka with little burn, but not separable from many lower cost selections. Its standard vodka, plain and simple

Many years ago, I was introduced to, and fell in love with, the smoothness, and almost invisible taste of, Grey Goose vodka. Many years later, I discovered the exquisite nutty bite of Ketel One. In comparison, Grey Goose is so smooth as to be boring. Ketel One is so exciting, I order my olives on the side so as not to dilute the wonderful Ketel One experience. Ketel One on ice, all by itself, with olives on the side, it darn near the perfect vodka experience. Now don't get carried away and use the premium priced Kettle One on a mixed drink. If you want to mix vodka with scotch or soda, save your money and read the reviews on Burnett's Vodka. This evening, I slowly sipped a half-Ketel one and half Drambuie with a half Burnette's economy vodka and half Drambuie, and each was a winning 5-start drink.

I thought this vodka was a pretty good vodka with a subtle bite (drinkable on the rocks) and a relatively smooth finish. Personally though i would rather pick up a bottle of square one organic vodka or chopin instead of this bottle (both are slightly more expensive but well worth the difference in price)

One of the smoother vodkas Ive had (marginally less so than Grey Goose), but tasteless and lacking character. Its burn-free, but this is a mixing sort of liquor, not a sipping one.

I experience my first Sea Breeze and it was delightfully light. I ordered the drink with Ketel One and it wasn't overly powerful. I would suggest this drink as well as Ketel One.
