Proof66 Notes

First launched in 1928, Luksusowa Vodka is named for the Polish word for "luxury." It is made with potatoes grown in northern Poland and artesian well water they claim is from the Oligocene Epoch (about 30 million years ago). It is filtered through charcoal and--interestingly--oak chips. The label also announces itself as Kosher. The name should be pronounced "Luk-soos-so-vuh."

Update: it looks like the label has changed (in 2015?) and no longer carries the Kosher label but in contacting the company, we're told that the vodka is still certified kosher the rabbi of Warsaw.

A very good value. Enjoy it frozen and neat as a wash for oily fish. At east on par with Stoli but at 1/3rd off the Stoli price. A solid "table" vodka that is reasonably priced and acceptable to serve to your guests.

EDIT 9/3/15: The Proof66 rating for this is much lower than Monopolowa. However, they went head to head at BT into 2013 and Luks medaled at the SFWSC into 2014. The Rabble rating for the Austrian product is .6 higher. So, with 21 Rabble ratings versus 6 for the other, they must be fairly close, except for price. My location, a Socialist-administered system prices the Monopolowa much higher than the Luks. They are both imports, not subject to US restrictions as to additives. Most folk who speak of a "smoother mouth feel", etc. are simply encountering the added glycerin of the EURO region. The Proof66 Rating is a mystery. /// Original: "The Price alone is 5 star. Typical nose, mild on the palate and a flat finish - not "sugary" finish. Quite mild for sippin. Should make a good mixer (I don't mix). No need to spend more for spuds wodka, I think. Good stuff. I drink it with a frozen Mineola twist. The water source, if true, is a plus since it is 60% water."

My favorite vodka! Cheap, but very versatile if you're looking for a one bottle combo for mixing, drinking straight, on ice or anything you want. Great for making any infusion you want! It "collects" more flavor than grain, therefore you get better results with infusions. Doesn't give headaches after a night out with it = luxury. It has a bit of pinchy aroma, could be potentially bad at first, but it's not rejectingly bad. Once you get a taste of it, it gets better.

Not sure why this vodka has such a positive review from many users. Burns way too much and i've had better vodkas in it's price range. This tastes very citrusy and its fine for mixing, but nothing to brag about. Im sorry but for potato vodkas, Chopin does it much better. Despite Chopin being twice more expensive, it is WAY ahead of this brand.

I know nothing of Vodka... I am a former Gin drinker. I have not had a drink since 1999. Anyway, I tried a little of this. The smell right from the bottle (and fridge) is just like rubbing alcohol. I put a bit into the freezer and it lost a bit of the smell and taste. When I tasted it after it had cooled in the fridge I found it tasted like rubbing alcohol. The taste disappears fairly quickly. No "creaminess or smoothness" as noted by other reviewers. Not something I could drink neat on a regular basis but mixed it should be OK. This does not rate any higher score than a two.

This Polish gem is extremely smooth with a rather pleasing sweetish finish. It's a potato vodka so has a slightly creamier feel, which is quite enjoyable. It'd rate it higher than even Sobieski, probably equal to Tito's which is slightly smoother, but doesn't have the mouthfeel or finish that this does. Grey Goose < Svedka < Ciroc < Sobieski < Luksusowa.

My 'go to' vodka on a normal day. Not at chopin's level, but very good, with a great price.

Don’t let the price fool you. If I could only take one brand of wódka and live in a hermitage the rest of my life, this would be the one. I drink this very, very chilled maybe with nothing else but a solitary anchovy olive. You will appreciate the taste and smoother texture that comes from potato mash. It is a rich tasting spirit diluted by pure artesian water containing no mineral content. I can’t think of any other wódka that gets as viscous when chilled in the freezer. But, don’t keep the bottle in the deep freeze for more than a couple weeks. Potatoes like bananas don’t fare well in low temperatures. After a while something in their chemistry starts breaking down.

Not a big vodka drinker but at least this one doesn't remind me of rubbing alcohol.Smooth for an unaged spirit butmost importantly for a vodka disappears when mixed.

Now that I've tried this I definitely prefer it to Skyy or probably Pinnacle. It's pretty clean but it's got a nice sweetness and a subtle character kind of taste, something maybe related to the potatos in it. Very sophisticated for this price range.

Not a vodka fan at all but this is alright. Rich textured vodka with a low burn. Very fair price at $20 a handle.

I normally mix vodka with something.  But for this review I poured a glass neat.  The smell starts off with the usual grain alcohol smell.  The taste is neutral with some burn.  It fills your tongue and goes down smooth.  Very pleasant with no harshness.

One of my favorites. Inexpensive, available at local (Detroit area) stores. A great value and a great vodka.

I find that most vodkas trade between being either clean or smooth, and Luksusowa is definitely a cleaner vodka. With that said, like the other reviewers here, it's got some bite... though with a vodka I think smoothness is sometimes overemphasized -- I kinda like a vodka with some nice crispness to it. At the price-point, this is a really exceptional vodka. I think one of the more neutral vodkas I've tried.

Holds up very well against other, more expensive vodkas.  Smooth going down and no harsh after taste.

Very clean with no aftertaste makes it excellent to drink neat, frozen or room temp. Price makes it unbeatable value.

An good value for the money - One of the few potato vodkas out there and one that does no charge an arm and a leg. Many Poles consider this an "Old style vodka" - that's fine with me. It's not fancy, but a good solid vodka with a nice mouthfeel and taste.
