Liquor Review Notes:
The Buffalo Trace Distillery is best known for making bourbons but has also recently gotten involved in vodka production.

Platinum 7x vodka is named for its multiple (i.e., seven) distillations. The first four are done in column stills with three more in more traditional special "pot stills." It is made with American corn (a necessary component for bourbon production) and then blended with limestone water. They claim it has a "very low congener count."

I think this is the best "bland" vodka I've tried over Skyy and Pinnacle. It's a little lighter feel and finish. Flavor is completely bland though. I'd rather step up to some Luksusowa, Reyka, Finlandia, Tanqueray Sterling, Stoli, something like that, with some actual character. Some of this cheap vodka is just so generic tasting. This is the best of the generic stuff I've consumed but I won't buy any of them again.

Platinum 7X Vodka is made from American corn, but the distillation process leaves it with essentially no flavor. It tastes like, well, vodka. Pure, clean ethanol. There's not much point in drinking it straight (although if you do, it should be ice cold). However, it makes for a solid mixer, and works well in the standard vodka drinks like a Screwdriver or Cape Cod. So why bother to discuss this vodka? Because it's cheap! I've seen it on sale for under $9, even cheaper than my standby Sobieski. At that price, you usually get something that tastes like rubbing alcohol. But Platinum 7X is significantly better than that. This vodka is amazing.  Bargain-basement price, but smoothness rivaling or exceeding that of vodkas 3-5x its price.  1.75L can be had for $16-20 in Virginia. Taste/flavor suffers a little (if drank neat), due to the 7 distillations, but it is well worth it in the smoothness it brings as well as the lack of any hangover the following day. Well done, Buffalo Trace.  BT's excellence in the bourbon world has obviously spilled over (no pun intended) into their other spirits.
