Ugly Dog Vodka
This is a Tier 3 score in the Vodka category. It means critics recommended the spirit but it will be a value brand or have an exotic taste.
Ugly Dog Distillery was founded in Michigan by John Dyer and Dewey Winkle. The concept was born when Dyer made a bet with a friend during a hunting trip that he couldn't make his own whiskey. The distillery is named for Dyer's dog named Ruger, who graces the label on the bottles and is nicknamed "Ugly Dog." They use a copper pot still in small-batch methods, where Dyer promises to taste every batch before bottling for consistency and quality.
Ugly Dog vodka is their neutral product made from a base of 100% Michigan-grown grain.
The 2012 Beverage Testing Institute called it a "wild and wooly vodka for daredevil cocktails."
