Proof66 Notes

According to a report in the Star Tribune, 2 Gingers Irish whiskey is the product of pub owner Kieran Folliard, who commissioned his own label. He claimed his Minnesota pub "The Local" sold more Jameson than anywhere else in the world. Due to his own pride in ownership and also to rising prices in Jameson, Folliard turned to his own personal whiskey.

The whisky 2 Gingers is a good bargain for entry level Irish whisky at 18 dollars. The nose is caramel, toffee, spice, and oak The entry is smooth with palate of toffee, caramel, ending with honey and milk chocolate

I found 2 Gingers to have a cloying sweetness and lack of body when tasted neat, however, this is to say, break out the Jameson's for shots and use the 2 Ginger with ginger ale, definitely a solid mixer

Simple and muted flavors, very little complexity, not terribly sweet. Does fine for mixing. I would not ever pay $20 for a bottle. I got one for $12 on clearance and it is really good stuff at that price point. Best for mixing, not for drinking straight. Shooting chilled is actually quite nice, likely from its light taste.

It's an okay Irish Whiskey, and the price is great (just under $20 here), but honestly it just tastes a little off-balance to me. It mixes great with Ginger Ale, but anything else and it's hard to get a cocktail just right. It's okay on the rocks, but straight it doesn't hold up well to me. If you're a fan of Irish Whiskey's I'd say go ahead and try a bottle, for the price you aren't out much, but for everybody else I would suggest skipping it and spending a few dollars more for better balanced Irish Whiskey like Jameson's or Bushmills (or even better Tullamore Dew or Paddy's)

Has a pleasant "grainy", sweet character to it that I like. My only issue with it is that it's far too watered down. I'm drinking it neat but it seems like I added an equal part of water to my glass. I think a delicate spirit like this needs to be at a minimum of 100 proof so that the flavor doesn't get too thin.

The name is apropos -- the nose is reminiscent of gingerbread. Sweet on the tongue as well; this is almost the hybrid of an Irish whiskey and a dark rum, and it works very well; there are molasses notes that harmonize nicely with the essential Irishness of it all. Long, warm, lovely finish. Insert your own joke about 'two gingers' here. :)

our verdicts always come down to a very simple question: would you cough up money, ask for it at a bar, or otherwise go out of your way to obtain 2 Gingers instead of something you’re more familiar with? We say: “kinda.” We did enjoy it on the rocks… we found it potentially showing well in different cocktails… but it’s a finicky whiskey that demands a careful and considered touch. This makes us deem it as an upscale boutique whiskey bar selection rather than a home selection but for the connoisseur who enjoys different whiskey brands and profiles, though we recognize these elite often want a few more years of aging (and a few more tens of dollars on the price tag). Nonetheless, these elite would regard 2 Gingers as a challenge to their ability to find the perfect cocktail and would end up pleased with the result.
